윈도우 온 아메리카 (Window on America)

윈도우 온 아메리카 (WoA) 란?

주한미국대사관의 ‘윈도우 온 아메리카 (이하 WoA)’ 프로그램은 지난 2005년 미국에 관한 신뢰 있는 자료제공의 일환으로 시작되었다. 이후로 현재까지 주한미국대사관은 WoA를 통하여 미국 정부 발행물을 국·영문으로 전국의 교육 관련 기관들에 기증하고 있다.

WoA 프로그램은 양해각서를 체결한 기관들과 긴밀한 파트너십으로 운영되며, 각 호스팅 기관은 주한미국대사관에서 제공한 자료들을 이상적인 장소에 전시하고 관리, 운영을 책임진다.

현재 전국에 총 44개의 WoA가 운영되고 있으며, 대사관 홈페이지를 통해  WoA 위치를 확인할 수 있다.

또한, 주한미국대사관에서는 온라인 라이브러리의 일환으로 '미국의 창'을 구축하며 미국 정부 발행물을 인터넷상으로 각종 서비스하고 있다. WoA가 물리적인 장소에 설치된 서가라면, 미국의 창은 인터넷 이용자들을 위한 자료정보 온라인 서비스다.

WoA와 미국의 창 모두 미국에 대한 다양하고 폭넓은 정보를 대중에게 전달하기 위한 목적으로 도입되었으며, 문자 그대로 미국을 보다 자세히 들여다 볼 수 있는 창이 되고자 한다. 주한미국대사관은 이 프로그램들이 한미 양국이해 증진에 일조하기를 바라고 있다.
